Bead embroidery, beaded stitching, beading on needlepoint, beadpoint making guide

Canvas has a pattern for beading

Threads

It’s better to use silk or cotton (you can also use 100% polyester) white or beige single thread for bidding. Wax a thread if you have wax (take a piece of wax, press a thread to the wax by a finger and pull the thread through then remove excess wax pulling the thread between two fingers). Thread waxing prevents its twist and tangle.

Frame

Use rectangular frame.

You can just make usual wooden frame and stretch canvas on it fixing material by pins. Actually beading embroidery is possible to make just on a table without any frame. Place terry towel on the table to avoid beads losing.

Beads

Some works should use large beads (correspond to size 6). You can use 4 small seed beads (size 11 or 12) instead one big.

Seed beads

Sew using “semi-cross” technique constantly watching and keeping diagonal direction (embroidery technique described below). When it finish fasten the working thread by double knot on seamy side as during usual sewing.

Embroidery technique

1. Insert a thread to a needle orifice and make a knot at the end. Now look at canvas. You can see little multicolor squares for seed beads each have 4 points in their corners. Insert the needle to bottom left corner point from seamy side. String corresponding color seed bead and insert the needle to upper right corner point. Pull the thread (look at the picture 1).

Just for better perception the thread on seamy side is drawn dotted.

2. Embroider whole row (picture 2) following the order: the needle is going out bottom left corner, corresponding color seed bead is stringing, the needle is going into upper right corner. Black arrow shows embroider direction.
3. After the first row is finished go down the second row. In this case the needle is going out from upper right point and in to bottom left point (pictures 3 and 4). Embroider third row as the first one.

4. There are two areas on partial beaded embroidery canvas – one with embroidery pattern and another with just picture printed. Reaching printed picture area you should go up or down next row, i.e. embroider it by parts, first from the one side then from another of the printed picture (picture 5).

5. If the next row is shorter then previous one you may not fasten the thread but reach a place necessary to continue embroidery by short stealth stitches (as close to seed beads as possible). Large beads can be sewn at the end of whole work.
Actually these are recommendations only. You may vary this technique basing on your experience and feelings. The main goal is not to follow the guide exactly but get great result in the form of very beautiful piece of art.
